All good skin care regimens begin with proper cleansing and it is perhaps one of the most important things we can do to help keep our skin healthy and beautiful.

Steaming

Steaming helps soften facial skin and open up pores for deeper cleansing.

Gently Cleanse

Cleansing removes the dirt that the skin picks up from our surroundings, plus bacteria and dead cells. The purpose of a cleanser is to surround, loosen, and make it easy to remove this dirt, debris, germs, excess oils, and left-over products applied to the skin.

Without cleansing, we would develop a build-up of materials that would make our faces dirty, shiny and dull.

The bacteria and dirt on our face would also increase the risk of bacterial infections, leading to skin problems like acne. Cleansing is particularly important for people with oily skin, who have excess oil on their face which attracts dirt and debris.

To clean the skin, it's best to select a gentle hypoallergenic, pH-balanced cream, or lotion, designed to help dissolve surface dirt and any makeup. Most cleansers contain oil, water and 'surfactants'. The oil dissolves oil on your face, surfactants dissolve dirt and makeup and the water washes it all away. The secret is finding the right mix. Too much on your skin will clog pores, while too little will dry it out.

Many people have dry skin because of their cleansing routines, not because their skin is normally dry. Often people think that their skin isn't clean unless it feels dry and tight after they wash it. People get used to the way their skin normally feels. They come to expect that they will have dry, rough patches on the backs of their hands, itch in winter time, and sometimes have a dull complexion. They don't realize that their choice of cleanser is the cause for this.

How Cleansers Work

Cleansers interact with the skin's moisture barrier as well as the skin's pH to emulsify dirt and oil for easy removal. As dirt or debris is usually embedded in the barrier's outer layer of oil, removing this dirt can disrupt this naturally protective surface.

The health of the skin's moisture barrier is important as this barrier preserves water and natural oils to moisturize and maintain the smoothness and flexibility of the skin. It also serves as your skin's protection against injury from chemicals or bacteria.

Harsh cleansers can disrupt this barrier, as well as irritate the skin and affect the skin surface pH, which scientists believe plays a role in regulating how this barrier functions and protects us from bacteria. Studies show that the barrier's regeneration and repair happens more slowly at a neutral pH than at the skin's natural acidic pH. Changing the skin surface's pH balance can increase the skin's sensitivity to potential irritants.

Algaeron – the Natural Choice!

Algaeron Cleansing Milk is a gentle natural cleanser. With its low oil content and high hydrating ability, the seaweed serum in Algaeron deep cleanses your skin and actively improves your skin. Because of its likeness to the human plasma it easily and deeply penetrates the pores, gently lifting dirt and removing dead skin cells.

The cleansing process also occurs because the seaweed in Algaeron naturally stimulates tissue metabolism which helps to purify, normalize and revitalize the skin.

It has a pH between 6.00 and 7.00. The pH of skin is 4 - 6.5 and generally gets more acid as you get older. Newborn babies have a skin pH of over 7.00 which decreases as they get older and are subjected to bacteria from exposure to the elements.

PURIFY: THE 1st DIMENSION

There are several steps to purifying your skin and each step is important

Cleanse  - removes the dirt, bacteria and dead cells on your skin.

Exfoliate  - gives a more thorough clean and removes the surface layer of the skin.

Tone  - completes the process by removing the last traces of oil, dirt and make-up; it revitalizes and firms your face by closing the pores.

 WHAT IS YOUR SKIN TYPE?

Know your skin type and choose products to which your skin will respond well.

HOW TO STEAM

Step 1: Soak a facial washcloth into a bowl of warm water.
Step 2: Squeeze the warm cloth lightly and place it against your face and neck.
Step 3: Dab and press gently for one to two minutes.

HOW TO CLEANSE

Step 1: Splash your face with lukewarm, purified water to loosen dirt and clogged pores.

Step 2: Spread about a quarter-sized amount of a mild, natural cleanser on your face.
Step 3:
You can use a washcloth or facial cloth if you choose, but your fingers are easier on the skin. Use a circular pattern to gently massage the cleanser into your skin.
Step 4: Wait a few moments and rinse with lukewarm water, and dab your skin dry with a clean, soft cotton towel.

DO's AND DON'TS

Do’s

  • Know your skin type.
  • Use mild cleansers – they still remove the dirt.
  • Brush your teeth before you wash your face. Toothpaste can be very irritating to the skin around your mouth, especially if you don't use a natural toothpaste that is free. of toxins like fluoride.
Don’ts
  • Don’t cleanse too often (twice a day should be enough).
  • Avoid soaps as they tend to dry out the skin – only use soaps from your neck down.
  • Soaps generally have a pH around 9.00 and breakdown the acid layer of the skin which is your defense against bacteria.
  • Never wash your face with hot or cold water (both can cause broken capillaries).
  • Don't apply too much cleanser as it will clog your pores.
